Description

This is a new 2-storey, 11 classroom and library addition to a 1-storey core building. The original school was designed by our firm in 1982. The current student enrollment has grown to 580 students. Although the school is adjacent to a park, it has limited flat land. The L-shaped plan with a 2-storey building was designed to minimize re-grading for an expanded building imprint. Site improvements to storm water drainage ameliorated the play area around the building.

Addition will be used for grades 7 and 8.

Technical Specifications

Building system consists of load bearing masonry, cavity wall construction, coreslab floors and roofs, and slab-on-grade first floor, built-up roofing, standard V.T. and paint finishes in classrooms, board standard fitments, elevator, 2 staircases.
Library Resource Centre is air conditioned.
Handicap washrooms and washroom on 2nd floor.

Energy Management

Mechanical room provided for new air supply on 2nd floor.
High performance glazing reduces energy loads for air conditioning.

Information Technology

All classrooms designed to include I.T. cabling.

Special Conditions

Scheduling and building access during construction are key issues in the design of this school.
