The residence has 8,500 sq.ft (790 m2) of floor area but a proportionally greater volume 100,000 cu.ft. (2,800 m3) because of the Entry and Great Room which have a clear height ranging up to 35 ft. (11 m).

The challenge was to set this very formal, massive dwelling on a wooded, steeply sloping site. Once the informally arranged shrubs and ground cover grew in they softened the boulders and loose paved areas to re-establish the natural site.
